Granny Mouse’s House

Imagine┬áthe ideal countryside home of a picture-book granny mouse. She has all the homemaking skills of your grannies combined and lives in a quaint but beautifully kept home in the Midlands. The grub delicious and you know you’ll want for nothing when you visit. That’s how I felt during my too-short visit to Granny Mouse on Nottingham Road after finishing the Three Cranes Challenge.

I’ve shown you a gallery of the quirky gardens. Here are my favourite snaps of the food and furnishings.

108km of trail running meant this was most important discovery of all. The Karkloof is a very muddy place!

In a very close second was the hearty food. I admit I guzzled one bistro burger faster than the speed of light - hence no photo - but this was the breakfast took time to appreciate.

The spread of juices and savoury treats was ideal for something lighter.

And I had to snap the muesli: the best I've ever had. I'll be quizzing Chef Sean for the recipe soon...

You'll never struggle for a quiet spot to share a drink or read at Granny Mouse's. This is one of several you could easily curl up in any time of day.

BBQ basted chicken, supreme grilled with roasted veg and herbed mash potatoes. This hit the spot at dinner time.

It was too nippy for swimming when I was there (I prefer the indoors with coffee vibe when in the Midlands), but the pool is super for summer.

Of course, I had earned the right to the occasional nap. But who could resist with a view like this?

My sincere thanks to Granny Mouse for the hospitality and for living up to my imagined ideal Midlands getaway.
