Safari in Karkloof

Wow, what an extraordinary few days in the Midlands! I’m finally back, with sore legs and good memories. Now I can start telling you about the people, places and experiences.

I’ll start with a safari in Karkloof. Yep, a proper bush experience in the Midlands. Just outside of Maritzburg is the luxurious Karkloof Safari Spa. One of the most indulgent, exclusive places I’ve encountered, my stay here began with a game drive from reception to the lodge and villas. Aided by my own private game ranger, I had some superb sightings. Here are my favourites.

Buffalo
Some pleasantly posed buffs.
A male nyala looks on.

What big ears you have. Female nyala.

Little nyala

Cute kiddies, too.

White rhino
Always good to see white rhino.
Warthog
The warties were being elusive. I caught this fellow just before he made for the hills.
Zebra
Zebra parental love.
Buffaloes
The buffs had youngsters too.
oxpecker
Even the mighty buffalo needs a little help from the tiny oxpecker.
